Must Download Internet Movies: Ricky-Oh!

Ricky-Oh, The Story Of Ricky, is without a doubt one of the strangest, weirdest and most surreal films ever created. It is really just plain nuts. It's hard to believe that some crazy filmmakers even went out there with this idea and said "Yeah let's make this movie instead of just joking around about it!" It was based on the equally surreal comic book by the same title. The resulting movie belongs on the list of top cult download internet movies. It's funny, surprising, shocking and ridiculous, and whether or not you wind up enjoying it, you'll certainly never forget it.

The movie focuses on the title character, Ricky-Oh, a young martial artist who gets himself put in prison for… Some reason or other (the movie is kind of vague on this point, as well as many others). Within the prison walls, he must face the members and leaders of four gangs that run the inmates, each one the master of their own strange style of Kung Fu.

The thing about the movie is… It's incredibly violent. But it's so incredibly over the top, so bizarre in its violence, that it feels at times nightmarish, and at other times… More cartoony, like Loony Toons violence. To give an example while trying not to spoil too much, there's a scene where Ricky is fighting one of the gang leaders and, upon realizing he's been beat, the gang leader produces a knife and digs it into his own abdomen, as if to commit seppuku… But then he rips his stomach open, pulls out his lower intestine, and uses it to strangle Ricky!

You'll really be too busy laughing at the onscreen violence to even other being disturbed, so you can't quite say that it's "not for the easily nauseated", because it's just too darn Loony Toons to gross you out.

Another fight scene climaxes with the enemy transforming into a twelve foot tall monster… Or rather, a stuntman covered in really, really awful makeup and costume. It's really quite funny. He "meats" his end when he comes face to face with a beef grinder, and not for one second do you believe what you're seeing onscreen.

The story actually has a heart, believe it or not, under all the violence and silliness. It's about human dignity and empathy, it's about fighting for your rights as an individual and treating other human beings with respect… It's also about throwing guys into meat grinders because they're transforming into giant monsters and trying to eat you, but the heart of the movie is really that it's all about the human dignity that Ricky-Oh fights so aggressively for.

The movie is miles over the top. It doesn't just go too far, it goes too far on a bullet train and then keeps going until it can't even see "Too Far" in the rear view mirror anymore. By the end of the film, it's gotten on board a space shuttle and taken off into outer space to the point that it's not even on the same planet as "Too Far" anymore.

Still, the ending is actually surprisingly uplifting and positive as Ricky liberates his fellow inmates from under the iron fist of the violent, abusive warden and all of his cronies. In a movie full of surprises, the biggest surprise of all is that you'll find yourself caring about the characters, not just wondering who's gonna get kicked in the butt with their own severed foot next.
